Installation location and mounting height strongly influence effectiveness. Cameras should be positioned so they clearly capture the desired area, while being difficult to tamper with. Vandal‑resistant housings and sabotage detection functions can provide additional protection in exposed locations such as public entrances or outdoor walls.

Storage and recording options also play an important role. Many systems use an NVR or DVR to store footage on hard drives, while some standalone cameras support microSD cards. Cloud services can offer convenient off‑site backup, but it is always advisable to review storage capacity, retention time and data access options before deciding.

Remote access has become standard for modern systems. Through dedicated apps or web interfaces, authorised users can view live video, play back recordings and adjust basic settings from almost anywhere with an internet connection. This can be particularly useful for business owners or homeowners who travel frequently but still want insight into what is happening on their property.

The answer will influence the type of camera, the number of units required and the technical level that makes sense for you.
