The Hikvision HiLook DVR-204Q-M1 is a 4-channel hybrid DVR designed for home, office and small business surveillance systems. HiLook is Hikvision’s value-focused product line, offering reliable and user-friendly video security. The recorder supports HDTVI, AHD, CVI and CVBS analogue cameras, and can also work with IP cameras, making it suitable for new installations or upgrading existing systems.
Motion Detection 2.0 analytics can distinguish people and vehicles from other motion, helping to reduce false alerts and speed up footage search. On the analogue side the DVR accepts up to 3K, 5 MP and 4 MP signals, while on the IP side it supports IP cameras up to 6 MP. Advanced compression (H.265 Pro+, H.265 Pro, H.265, H.264+ and H.264) optimises storage use and bandwidth. HDMI and VGA outputs allow easy connection to a monitor or TV, and the network interface enables secure remote access. The unit supports one SATA hard drive up to 10 TB (HDD not included), providing a solid central recording solution for everyday monitoring.
You can choose between two cabling packages: a DIY kit or a pre‑assembled cable kit.
DIY kit: Only one cable per camera is required to the DVR; this carries both power and video. The necessary connectors (video baluns and power plugs) are included and fitted by the user. A step‑by‑step installation guide is available here: Installation guide. Basic tools (side cutter, screwdriver, utility knife) are sufficient. The standard package includes 10 m of UTP cable per camera; extra length can be requested in the order comments (additional fee per metre).
Pre‑assembled cable kit: In this option, all connectors are factory‑fitted to the camera cables, so you only need to plug the DVR, power supply and cameras together. The base package includes 10 m COX10 cable per camera. Longer pre‑made cables are available on request in 20 m COX20 and 30 m COX30 versions.
The Hik-Connect app lets you manage your security devices from a single platform. After registration, you can add your DVR by serial number and access live view, playback and basic settings from your phone or computer. Notifications can be customised, and camera views can be shared with family members if needed.
Yes. If the DVR is connected to the internet and you install the manufacturer’s app or software on your phone or computer, you can access live and recorded footage remotely, subject to your network connection.
Yes. The DVR does not require internet for local recording and playback. A suitable internal hard drive (HDD, not included) is needed to store the recordings, which you can review directly on a connected monitor.
Motion‑based recording is generally recommended, as the DVR records only when movement is detected. This saves storage space and makes it easier to review relevant events.
No. Once the hard drive is full, the DVR automatically overwrites the oldest footage, so no manual deletion is required.
The recommended maximum distance is 30 m per camera with the supplied cabling. For longer runs, additional power considerations or alternative cabling solutions may be required.
The camera system comes with a 2‑year warranty, handled directly by the retailer according to their service process.
